About the Course

Equip yourself to support students impacted by trauma with TRAUMA-INFORMED Teacher
Aides. This program delivers a wealth of expert insights, research findings, and practical
strategies to enhance student learning and behaviour.

Key Learning Objectives:

 Understanding Trauma:
o Defining trauma and its various forms.
o Exploring the impact of trauma on the developing brain and body.
o Recognizing the signs and symptoms of trauma in students.
o Understanding how trauma can affect learning, behaviour, and social-
emotional development.

 Creating a Trauma-Informed Classroom:
o Establishing a safe and predictable learning environment.
o Building trusting relationships with students.
o Implementing strategies to promote emotional regulation.
o Understanding and responding to trauma-related behaviours.
o Creating a culture of empathy and compassion.

 Practical Strategies and Tools:
o Techniques for de-escalation and crisis management.
o Strategies for supporting students with anxiety and other trauma-related
challenges.
o Methods for fostering resilience and coping skills.
o Ways to incorporate social-emotional learning (SEL) into the IEPs.
o Information about available resources and support services.

To effectively support students, teacher aides must be TRAUMA-INFORMED. Ignoring this
reality means risking students’ academic performance, cognitive development, school
engagement, and graduation rates, while increasing their likelihood of suspension or
exclusion.

Following the one-day workshop participants will receive the online bonus consisting of
four self-paced modules [videos] plus two bonus extras to support neurodiverse
learners! These will be sent upon completion of the in-person course and will include some
of the slides from the event and a link to our feedback form.
After completing the TRAUMA-INFORMED Teacher Aides workshop a certificate will be
issued to participants.

Marshall has a background as a principal, community leader and keynote speaker, Marshall’s role as Director at the Growth Culture Leadership Academy perfectly combines his incredible ability to inspire educators, with his strengths in leadership, coaching and mentoring.

Aaron Ironside

Wellness Kaiarahi, Aaron Ironside has a Masters Degree in Psychology, Aaron draws from his experience as counsellor, chaplain, spokesperson and broadcaster. He also enjoys a good laugh, and was a recent grand finalist at the Auckland Comedyfest Competition.
