About The Course

Our coaching clinic is designed to equip school leaders with the essential coaching skills to effectively support their staff and drive positive change within their schools.

Suitable Audience: School leaders who want to develop coaching skills.

Course Structure:

  • Online Modules: 5 modules delivered online, available from Week 1-6 of the term.
  • PD Summit: A two-day in-person summit in Week 5/6/7 of the term, exploring module themes in depth and providing practical application opportunities.
  • Follow-up Coaching Conversation: An online conversation in Week 9/10 to discuss progress and provide additional support.


Online Modules

  1. The Coaching Relationship:
    • Building trust and rapport
    • Active listening and empathy
    • Non-judgmental stance
  2. Effective Questioning Techniques:
    • Open-ended and probing questions
    • Reflective questioning
    • Powerful questioning strategies
  3. Coaching Models and Frameworks:
    • GROW model
    • Taking a strengths- based approach
  4. Goal Setting and Action Planning:
    • SMART goal setting
    • Action planning and implementation
    • Accountability and follow-up
  5. Ethics in Coaching:
    • Ethical considerations in coaching
    • Confidentiality and boundaries
    • Professional conduct


In Person Modules

In person workshop (Week 5/6/7- Thurs/Fri)

Term 1 dates:

  • Christchurch:  March 6-7
  • Auckland: March 13-14

 

  • Day 1 (11:00 AM – 3:30 PM):
    • Deep dive into module themes
    • Learning about body language and non-verbal communication.
    • Peer discussions and sharing
    • Practical application exercises – listening and questioning
  • Day 2 (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM):
    • Putting it all together – practice coaching sessions and feedback.
    • Creating personalised action plan to implement a coaching approach at your kura

Practical Application (Weeks 6-10)

Participants apply their learnings at their kura.

Follow-up Coaching Conversation (Week 9/10)

  • One-on-one online conversation with a course facilitator
  • Discussion of progress and challenges
  • Additional support and guidance
