Growth Culture Module 9
This reading connects strongly with me because I am part of a group who are leading a process of change that we are going through. A few key points that struck a chord with me:
• The change must be simple to explain and appealing to others. It must have a clear vision that makes it easier to understand which way they should go.
• Statements and deeds are both forms of communication, and those spearheading the change must act in a way that is consistent with their statements.
• Short-term victories help maintain urgency and interest levels because change can take a long period.
Developing a culture that embraces change is crucial; without everyone being “in,” it won’t be successful. Our whole school has gone through numerous changes, both major and minor, and all staff members as well as senior leadership have participated in these adjustments.
Communication has been important because so many people have become involved in this transition. Together with the other team leaders leading this change, I have been transparent in our communication with the rest of the team, seeking their suggestions, testing the change, and assessing it. This is crucial, in my opinion, and should go on.
Having short-term wins is important, because this change has been happening over the course of this year and will continue to develop, so having smaller, attainable goals and successes helps to break it down and support people in feeling successful in the change. I think this is something I need to continue with and make sure I am celebrating these successes with the whole team.
