If you would like to present and/or attend please see below

This is a call for papers for the NZEALS 2024 conference Mahi toi | Mahi tahi. The conference will be held on September 16 – 18 2024 in the vibrant southern city of Ōtautahi Christchurch, New Zealand.

At NZEALS we believe that it is important for education leaders to connect with people and ideas in the same space, and to reflect on their own leadership experiences by sharing them with others from across education sectors. This is an opportunity for your research, experience and reflections to be shared, within the conference themes of:

    Leading well
    Leading together
    Leading with optimism
You are invited to submit an abstract or outline for a breakout group session held within the inspiring venue of Christchurch City Library, Tūranga. These sessions may take a range of formats, lasting around 40 minutes, designed to enable attendees to participate, debate and enhance their understandings of leadership in education. Formats include:

Papers presenting formally or informally undertaken research on an aspect of educational leadership
Leadership stories presented by a single person or a group
Workshops or facilitated discussions exploring leadership issues, dilemmas, challenges and ways forward
Mahi Toi | Mahi Tahi: The conference theme has been gifted to the organising committee and captures the idea that when we work well together and with optimism we will reap the rewards. All presentations therefore should in some regard contribute to the concepts of Leading well, Leading together or Leading with optimism. Presenters should aim to engage fellow delegates in thoughtful discussion: attending this conference is part of a leadership journey for us all.

We particularly welcome contributions by emerging researchers, new leaders, and middle leaders across the education sector

My name is Mike Vannoort and I am the principal of Middleton Grange School in Christchurch, which is a state-integrated Christian school of approx 1400 students. Looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow in Tauranga.

  3. Someone had to be last to the party…
    Tēnā koutou All,
My name is Steve Farrand and I’m from Tawa, Wellington. I’m the proud father of two teens, Joshua (14) and Jessica (12 going on 18!) and husband to Kate. I was until recently the Principal of Maranatha Christian School in Lower Hutt. I left at the end of 2023 after a wonderful 10-year run. I’m currently the external lead principal for the Lower North Island Christian Kāhui Ako, volunteering my time to help establish a new Christian high school in Wellington, looking after a puppy, and being ‘house dad’ while trying to paint that ‘said house’ in the gaps. To be fair, this is quite a relaxing season compared to being a principal! I’m looking forward to meeting you all next week and continuing to grow as a leader ahead of my next position in a kura.

  4. Hi Everyone,
I am principal of Tinwald School in the tourist mecca of Ashburton, famous for its innovative street names such as West Street and East Street. I am very privileged to be on a sabbatical at the moment and am looking forward to meeting you all and visiting the North Island. I was unsure if I needed a tetanus jab so got one along with a rabies one and my visa is confirmed.
    Thanks
    Peter

  5. Kia Ora
I am Kerry Nancarrow and I am Principal of Tikorangi School in Taranaki which is a country school with about 175 students. I have been here nearly 5 years and I was a Principal of a smaller school for 3 years before that 🙂 I am looking forward to meeting you all next week.
    Kind Regards
    Kerry

I am really looking forward to meeting you all soon at the retreat!

Bit late to the party sorry. Even though I have been at our kura for almost 20 years no day/week/term/year is the same and this year has proved no different.
I am really looking forward to meeting everyone in a couple of weeks time.

  8. Ata mārie, ko Jodie Linklater tōku ingoa.
I have been the principal at Ross School on the West Coast for the past 7 years.

I really enjoyed meeting Grant a week or so ago, and I’m feeling excited about the thinking and work ahead as a result of the discussions we had. I’m also looking forward to meeting everyone else and sharing some time with you all.
